ABOUT US
Welcome to the Spark FREE Youth Drop-in Program!
For nearly three decades, our program has been a cornerstone of the community, operating out of the Spark Youth Centre owned by the Spark Society for Youth. Conveniently located in downtown, our 1800 sq. ft. facility boasts various areas for music, games, cooking, play, socializing, and more. We take pride in maintaining a clean, cozy, and inviting environment, ensuring all who enter feel safe and welcomed.
Our program benefits the community in several ways:
-
Youth Engagement: Providing a free, inclusive space for young people after school, catering to diverse interests and needs.
-
Family Support: Offering parents peace of mind knowing their children have a supervised place to go after school, allowing them to focus on work.
-
Skill Development: Equipping youth with essential skills, laying the groundwork for their future success and contribution to society.
Attendance fluctuates based on various factors such as school activities, weather, and the time of year, typically averaging 7-10 participants on a typical day. With limited resources, we can only afford one part-time staff member, meaning additional supervision is necessary if numbers exceed ten. Nevertheless, we believe in providing support even if there are only one or two youth present.
Our program is led by experienced professionals: our Youth Leader holds a Human Service Worker education, while our Executive Director boasts 25 years of experience working with youth.
Our commitment to the community is unwavering. Our program is open to all youth and families, free of charge, reflecting our dedication to inclusivity and accessibility. Our 30-year track record speaks volumes about our steadfast commitment to the community. We are grateful for the ongoing support from various organizations, including nonprofits, churches, Rotary clubs, banks, and the City of Kimberley.
Every community needs a youth society like ours to support and empower young people. We are proud to play this vital role in Kimberley and beyond.
